  • I pulled my lower back.  I originally injured it during a workout a couple of Saturdays ago.  It began to feel better, but I injured it again Friday night while I was out dancing.  I have decided to not participate in the Jujutsu tournament this August 4th because of that injury.  Tournaments are very physically demanding and if I am injured now I am almost guaranteed to be in very bad shape following the tournament.  There will be other tournaments, hopefully I recover quickly so it does not impede my physical pursuits to a significant degree.

I have finished reading a novel by Audrey Niffenegger called The Time Traveler’s Wife.  It was a unique and very well written story.  This novel is a science fiction love story.  I do not like giving away too much of plot lines so I will just repeat the description on the back of the novel.  However, before I do that, I will leave you with the following thought; I had a strong emotional reaction to this story and to me, a story that is capable of producing an emotional response is always worth reading because it makes us feel more human, more alive.

“A most untraditional love story, this is the celebrated tale of Henry DeTamble, a dashing, adventuresome librarian who involuntarily travels through time, and Clare Abshire, an artist whose life takes a natural sequential course.  Henry and Clare’s passionate affair endures across a sea of time and captures them in an impossibly romantic trap that tests the strength of fate and basks in the bonds of love.”

I have now begun reading Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky.
