The 48 Laws of Power

Many people throughout modern history that have been considered successful have begun from nothing. Because they had nothing to lose they were willing to take risks and if successful would reap rich rewards. On the other hand the off spring of those same people and those who come from well to do backgrounds never struggled with being on the bottom but have rather had almost everything given to us. It is because we start from such a place that we are more inclined to shy away from risk for fear of losing what we already have. We do not know if we can survive with nothing if things do not go as planned, therefore we look for the safest choices. I feel in many regards, this describes me.
All of my accomplishments in life have been merely there for the taking. The finances have been available and all that was needed was the devotion and focus on my part to complete the requirements of whatever class, certification, or license that was required of me. There is no risk in that. I have hardly ever created something out of almost nothing other than in the creative aspects of performing arts which amounts to little but a fleeting moment of entertainment. While I would love to continue to learn and develop myself as a person, there is clearly more to life than racking up check marks on a list of life goals. I from this point on will look at those aspects of my life where I should take more chances, where the outcome is less certain than I am comfortable with and let the pieces fall where they may. The only thing that prevents me from doing so is an intangible psychological barrier that now revealed should hopefully be easy to surmount.
Leaving the realm of the introspective and philosophical I will move onto more mundane aspects of my life.
Improv Comedy Classes (Level 3) begins tomorrow. I will most likely be performing in three shows during the month of October, so if anyone is interested in seeing the show just inquire for more information. The ticket fee is generally five dollars…so no excuses of having no money…you know who you are ;-P
Orientation for law school begins on Sunday and runs until Thursday. The first day of class is on Monday the 28th. So it’s official, I am a law student pending any unfortunate mishaps.

why so grim? you were always the happy go lucky scholar who seeks self improvement. letting the chips fall where they may is my outlook on life and it doesnt seem to get any better. the chips have a mind on their own and is always a gamble. many people would love to make safe bets and take steps foward.
as for starting with nothing, many people dont have a choice. You are one of the few lucky ones (in other places other than staten island) who doesnt have to do so. It's not where you begin in life but where you ultimately end up or strive to end up. So play the cards you were dealt, rather than start with a hand meant for somebody else.
Your parents worked hard to provide you with all you need so that you don't have to start from scratch and take stupid risks to advance foward in this game we call life.
I can somewhat see where this is all stemming from. The stereotypical Staten Island kid who has done nothing all their life but take advantage of their parent's wealth and fortune and gives nothing in return but demands for more. One who seeks no self improvement and cares for nothing and nobody but themselves, They will eventually take over the "family business" and keep living the life style they have been given and so on with their kids. This J is not you. You are better than that and I've seen it in you.
